Quality Salmon, the company building what would be Europe’s largest recirculating aquaculture system Atlantic salmon operation in western Sweden, has signed a letter of intent with iCell Sustainable Nutrition, to have the Shanghai, China-based company construct and operate their water cleaning and nutrient recovery system.
Quality Salmon, which is expected to produce up to 100,000 metric tons of salmon per year once its project is complete, has been securing approvals and locking up agreements with a slew of vendors over the past year. In June it secured a lease from the city of Sotenas for 140 hectares (345 acres) of land, as reported by Undercurrent News.
Mark Rottmann, iCell’s CEO, said in a press release that he is honored to have had his company selected to collaborate on the project, noting that it “opens the door for iCell to establish an operating company in Scandinavia allowing the local legal entity to grow and service the entire region.”
